It was a crappy weather day, ceilings were about 3000ft with intermittent rain showers further out, so I decided to just do some pattern work, practice landings and such and finally did some touch and go’s at Van Nuys. Travis had signed me off on the touch and go’s at Van Nuys a while ago but I just haven’t had the chance to go do it. Touch and go’s are basically where you come in for a normal landing and you touch down but you stay on the runway and just hit the throttle and take off right away without stopping. It really speeds up the practice time for doing landings and take off’s because you don’t have to taxi back to the end of the runway and wait to get cleared for takeoff every time. Also it was my first time landing at Van Nuys solo so that was cool. I did three touch and go’s at Van Nuys and three at Whiteman. I was in 13818 today, I used to prefer 19688 thought it was easier to fly, now 13818 seems easier to fly and landings are smoother for some reason. I think it’s because 19688 only goes down to 800 RPM when you pull it to idle and 13818 goes down to about 600 RPM, those extra 200 RPM’s can make a big difference when you’re landing, as it’ll speed you up just enough to make you float more down the runway. That’s my theory anyway.
